The annual interest rate is the deposit rate for one year. Interest rate, short for rate of interest, is the ratio of interest over a period to the deposit or loan principal. It is usually divided into annual, monthly and daily rates. The annual rate is shown as a percentage of the principal, the monthly rate as a per-thousand and the daily rate as a per-ten-thousand.
